Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra

(ROSO)

In 1985 His Majesty directed that a Royal Symphony Orchestra be formed under the aegis of the Royal Guard. Young Omanis of both sexes are carefully selected and trained as musicians in addition to  being given a comprehensive general education at a boarding establishment in Bait Al-Barakah. Since the ROSO performed in public for the first time in 1987, it has achieved notableprogress. In January 1996, the ROSO played together with the visiting BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and now entertains the public with concerts on a regular basis. There are 120 members of the ROSO, of whom 30 are the original students.Saif Al-Mayahi------ The Leader

The ROSO excelled itself with a special concert to celebrate the Silver Jubilee, playing to an enthusiastic audience in the al-Bustan Palace Hotel. It was a fitting tribute to His Majesty, who had had the vision of founding the Orchestra as a contribution to the arts in society as an integral part of building an outward-looking nation.
